I can attest to the bit about the secondary care-giver talking; I’ve been reading out loud every day to my daughter since before she was born, not to mention blabbing away at her as if she could understand anything and everything. She was an early talker and by second grade, she was reading all the Harry Potter novels to herself, and testing at a twelfth grade reading level. The singing is so important, too. I often hear moms say they don’t sing to their own babies because they’re self-conscious about their voices or their ability to carry a tune. Breaks my heart. Get over it! Sing! You can’t do any harm. Music really helps wire up those developing brains and it creates quite a bond. My daughter (now age nine) still wants to hear the songs I sang her to sleep with as a baby, especially when she’s feeling upset about something.
