A very popular activity with a ball, that I saw at a preschool event recently, is putting the ball on one end of a balance board and jumping on the other end to send the ball flying into the air.

I visualize my son bouncing a ball off the paintings on the wall. Extra bonus points?

Fab post, Deb. I worked on the hand/eye coordination thing with a couple friends’ kids over the weekend in a round of croquet. Striking the ball with a mallet can be especially tricky when the grass hasn’t been mowed short enough or evenly.

My two youngest kids have been playing with balls a lot, lately, their favourite are the pimple balls. They like me to throw it as far into the yard as I can, then run after it to get it. They also like me to put my arms into a basketball hoop shape and aim the ball in.

Wonderful post. Active children are a pleasure to see (and more adults should join in.) I especially enjoyed your commentary instead of merely listing the ways. Happy T13

I’m terrible with all ball skills my hand eye co-ordination is none existent. That said Heidi discovered a tennis ball at school yesterday and has named it ‘my number friend’ because it has numbers on it. She spent most of last night and all this morning playing with it. Made me realise how little we actually do anything with balls at our place.

Ah great list….

Ball play is one thing we just don’t seem to do much around here… I must go buy a ball or two and change that!

My 5 1/2 year old has just discovered the joy of dribbling. He counts his dribbles up and tries to do more the next time than the last. Great eye-hand coordination and counting fun. It helps that dad loves basketball! 🙂

What a fantastic list. Immy has quite an arm on her already so a target other than Mummy is always a good thing 🙂
