I just listened to the songs with my boys and they both agreed Bat Man was the best 🙂 hehe and those videos are SO cute 🙂

Bat Man was the big girl’s favourite until she realised it wasn’t actually about Batman!

I’m quite partial to ‘It’s Not Fair’ , even if it hits a little close to the bone…
Breaking stereotypes is a plus – a scientist, who is a female AND a mother. Doesn’t seem like a big thing, but it is.

We’ve got Here comes Science by they might be Giants and there was much drama at bedtime this evening when the CD could not be found (comes with a DVD also).

Deb February 9, 2011 at 8:41 pm

I hadn’t actually thought of all the stereotypes it’s breaking, but you’re right it’s really an achievement. I did notice that the baby in Born to do Science is a girl!

We love They Might Be Giants too, we’ve had a few of those nights.

Hi Deb,

The girls are adorable! Thank you for reviewing the CD!

I should mention that one of the bonuses you haven’t checked out yet on the disc is a video called “Wind Energy Motions.” (Pretty self-explanatory) It looks like the big girl has already figured out what some of them are!

The same video can be viewed here:

Good luck with the give-away, everyone! Thanks for checking out the CD!

Our favourite (based on the samples anyway) is Acrocanthosaurus.

Love the videos!

One of the highlights of inorganic chemistry was our lecturer playing “Why does the sun shine?” by They Might Be Giants (although it is an older song I believe) to us. It summed up the unit we were doing perfectly so I think it’s a great way to learn. My daughter is also loving a cassette with music just about dinosaurs gifted to her by older cousins.

Thankyou, I think Acrocanthosaurus is actually my favourite too.

I love that one too, they have done an updated on ‘Why Does the Sun Really Shine’ including the line ‘The sun is a miasma, of incandescent plasma’ 😀

I cheated and reviewed these at work so my (arguably invalid) opinion, is this CD is awesome! I loved Acrocanthosaurus. My 4yo will love trying to say that. I’m sure they’ll both make a liar of me and pick some other favs when we check it out tonight, but it’s a lot of fun!

Deb February 11, 2011 at 9:08 pm

Definitely not cheating, getting it into schools is a great thing!

What an absolutely amazing idea!!! This CD is awesome and the only reason I love the Super Scientist song the most, is because I am a biochemist and am amazed with how much I have in common with Marianna (the microbiologist who inspired this song). The only thing I don’t have in common is having a husband lol! I’m a single mum :o)
Anyway, my son is only 14 months old, but he loves his music. If I don’t win a copy of this CD, I will download it for sure.
I have kept all your little science experiments (which we can do at home) in a special folder on my laptop. Once he’s old enough, I’ll be doing these experiments with him and playing this CD in the background!

Oh and by the way, your girls are just too cute with their dancing! Your eldest might not now all the words, but she sure know what it’s all about 🙂

The first I previewed was “My Molecular Eye” and Mr 5 was laughing along too. I listened to a few others, but that was the funniest.

Gave your giveaway a plug on my FB page too.

Definately Acrocanthosaurus, for a family of dinosaur lovers.
I love the variety, awsome CD for a science teaching mum who has quite a lot of music loving students. I think it would really grab their attention.

I like born to do science! As a school teacher I can see great use for things like this in classrooms around Australia!

Love Super Scientist! My mum (who was a teacher) had me convinced when I was 7 that all teachers were secret super heros (a la The Greatest American Hero). I’d love for my kids to think the same thing about their scientist mum!

We’ve just moved house and don’t have internet yet -not even a landline & dial-up (boo hiss!) – so I haven’t had a chance to play these to my little one (yet!!), but I agree with your Big Girl that Wind Energy sounds really good 🙂

Michele February 14, 2011 at 8:14 pm

I liked Super Scientist. Sounds like an awesome CD!
