The shrub pictured above looks like a species of Murraya, although not M. paniculata.
Sorry about the vague answer!

BTW, I was distracted and failed to mention Murraya is a member of the citrus family (Rutaceae), which would explain the heady fragrance.. 🙂

Thanks, that makes sense, I thought the leaves look like citrus.

looks almost like an immature or small version of a Magnolia. Beautiful though.

I miss the smell of flowers after my potted bloom died mysteriously overnight. 😛

Looks like Orange Blossom to me. 🙂 YUM!

LadyNoor July 28, 2010 at 11:46 am

I call it orange jasmine, some know it as orange blossom as Shanna said. Aroidophile is right, it is a citrus family as described here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murraya_paniculata

I know nothing about gardening, I just happen to love this plant and it’s fragrance! People usually have this as a natural fence around the house.

Exactly what I was going to say.
Looks like orange jasmin to me – we had it growing from the base of the stairs when we lived in Tumbulgum, and each year, we’d wind it up the stair rails, to make an almost hedge of heady almost headache inducing scent.

I would have to say that the middle photo (the close-up) is my favorite!! I’m sorry I am no botanist, but I am sure that it smells beautiful and refreshing! Thank you for sharing your photos, and Happy WW!

Too bad my computer does not have that scratch and sniff feature.

Deb July 30, 2010 at 7:31 pm

Thanks everyone, the consensus seems to be Murraya paniculata. The leaves are slightly different, but that might be because this is a semi-arid area.

I like my scratch and sniff feature, although sometimes it can be a pain, like cooking sites 😉
