Changes through the day

by Deb on March 17, 2011

The world around us is constantly changing, making it always new and fun to explore.  There are constants overlaid by patterns of change we take for granted that little kids have never seen before.

  1. The sun comes up and light comes through the curtains.
  2. It gets warmer and jumpers come off. Kite
  3. I grew up on the coast and every morning we had a land breeze sweeping out to sea.  It was very noticeable in the spring because it brought all the pollen and caused lots of hayfever.
  4. It’s hot and still, the sun is overhead, shadows disappear.
  5. In the afternoon we wait for the breeze to change. You look over the water and see the waves ripple as the sea breeze approaches and brings the cool.
  6. The sun goes down. sunset
  7. The insects come out, buzzing around the lights and feasting on your leftovers and arms.
  8. It’s cool enough to sleep.
  9. As a kid storms came from the North. In our current house they come from the east, through pure good luck there is a windbreak sheltering the outside area on that side.
  10. In the dry season the sun returns, the grey and overcast is gone. clouds
  11. The path we weeded is overgrown and has to be found again.
  12. The mud we stomped in to create footprints and squish between our toes is dry and dusty.
  13. It’s cold and we turn off the airconditioners, pull out the jumpers and put quilts on the bed to snuggle under. sleep

Do you see the patterns and changes around you? Do you celebrate them?

Celebrating life’s changes, even minutia, is a great idea. Thanks for sharing it.

I guess I never wrote down those kinds of changes but I do like to take note of them. Nice list.

Does a happy dance for a warm day count as celebrating?

Great list. Mine is here.

Great post. I feel that in recent years I have lost touch with nature, after spending so many years trying to get closer. The seasons do seem to fly by these days. “Who Knows Where The Times Goes?” (Sandy Denny / Fairport Convention).

I do love the sea too, although rarely see it. Strange as I live relatively close by, only 30 minutes drive really. The diurnal winds during hayfever season are certainly a killer for me though, had some trips to the seaside ruined by that!
