I like the oxygen, hydrogen, etc that’s what little girls are made of. ๐Ÿ™‚ My girls names were inspired by the periodic table, Selena – Selenium, and Allie – Aluminum. I once tried making shirts with their elements on it, but it was just the iron on kind and it washed off. ๐Ÿ™

I love the oxygen, hydrogen, carbon that’s what little girls are made of but I would love the Botanista for one of my little ones. They love flowers are always picking any in the card to bring them to tell us they love us or make the table pretty.

Meryl February 28, 2011 at 8:29 am

I adore ‘that’s what little girls are made of’, although I have a little boy too who is made of the same stuff… – whom I dislike dressing in clothes that declare how much trouble he is or how television and computer games are the only things that matter. The matching set would be awesome!

Bernadette Jee via Facebook February 28, 2011 at 8:30 am

What sizes do these come in? I had a look at the link and could not quite work it out but I love them, thanks for sharing and making them.

kate February 28, 2011 at 9:01 am

I love the “I wanna be an alien pologist in black (you can’t see the N.T red dirt)

Nicole Marinaro February 28, 2011 at 9:12 am

Deb the t-shirts are great! I like the botanista one but I can’t decide on my favourite! It’s either the fizzics design or the atom design. I think I’m going to have to say Fizzics! Any wonder given that I married a Physicist? ๐Ÿ™‚
As for other designs, I’m not very creative but I’d love something along the lines of being an ‘excited little electron’ or perhaps ‘I radiate love’ with a pink (or other colour) trefoil symbol and some hearts.

Deb February 28, 2011 at 6:36 pm

I like those – I’ve been thinking of a ‘rad’ type one but I think that’s better.

Science@home via Facebook February 28, 2011 at 9:37 am

Thanks everyone!

Hi Bernadette, you can get them pretty much any size you want.
You have to click on the Buy/Preview button. Up the top are the links for adult/kid, then inside the box you can choose the style, size and colour.

It’s a confusing site but unfortunately I can’t change it because it isn’t mine.

Bernadette Jee via Facebook February 28, 2011 at 9:38 am

Thanks, I love those shirts little boys and girls are made of….

Melissa E. February 28, 2011 at 10:29 am

i love the “what little boys are made of” shirt with the dalmation. My two year old would love it, too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sabrina February 28, 2011 at 11:31 am

Oh how can I choose just one? I love them all! If I had to choose just one….. Thats what little girls are made of ๐Ÿ™‚

Will come back with ideas.. ๐Ÿ™‚

Meryl February 28, 2011 at 12:26 pm

Oh! I see you’ve done both boys and girls! If I win one, I’ll have to procure the other.

Ann-Marie February 28, 2011 at 3:20 pm

I’m with Meryl – I am sick of the stereotyping for boys, that all they are is trouble. But I love the alienpologist (and so does my 5yo son), especially in the Orangey/Red colour.

Great work on all the designs!!

A.

Ann-Marie February 28, 2011 at 3:24 pm

BTW: Just had an idea, mixing my two favourite subjects (science and drama):

Picture with a bunsen burner and test tube or other container in the background, frothing up and bubbling over

“Double, double, toil and trouble…”

Mind you, as much as I hate the trouble references for my boys, it would be ME wearing a t-shirt like this.

A.

Bec February 28, 2011 at 3:24 pm

They are all so great! My fav is the I wanna be a Alien pologist (dark)

Bec February 28, 2011 at 3:27 pm

For a new design I think a gravity based one would work well…with either bubbles being blown or balloons, flying high up in the air stating something about this is how gravity works

Deb February 28, 2011 at 6:37 pm

And I just happen to have a great balloon photo …

SquiggleMum February 28, 2011 at 3:31 pm

Loving that sweet Botanista shirt! Definitely my 4yr old’s style.

Don’t suppose you want to make a bird one that says Ornithologista ?!! Now THAT would be totally cool ๐Ÿ™‚

Deb February 28, 2011 at 6:37 pm

Yes, will have to see what bird designs work!

Narelle February 28, 2011 at 4:22 pm

I love the ‘ that’s what little girls are made of’ one. Will have to consult with DH for future ideas for you, he’s always got lots of good suggestions ๐Ÿ˜‰

Carey February 28, 2011 at 5:23 pm

My little girl would love the botanista one, but I think I have to go with the oxygen, hydrogen, carbon thatโ€™s what little girls are made of shirt!

Just one little thing – the letters for the Fizzics top looked like “Fizzies” for me for quite a while and I didn’t get where the science bit was!

Deb February 28, 2011 at 6:34 pm

Thanks, I see what you mean. Will have a look at the fonts!

Bec February 28, 2011 at 6:50 pm

Yep I agree with th Fissics, I thought it was Fizzies until I read the comments here too.

Deb February 28, 2011 at 8:29 pm

OK, have changed it to a slightly clearer font. I think it makes a difference but it would be good to see what others think.

Carey March 11, 2011 at 8:56 am

Definitely a lot better!

Christine Connors February 28, 2011 at 6:35 pm

Deb, these are fantastic. I was only thinking the other day how even little babies/toddlers t-shirts for girls are designed in a cut that would suggest that they are much older, i.e. fitted, very small sleeves and even the neck line on some scoop rather low! It is so hard to find practical clothes for girls. I love the Botantista T-shirt. My oldest girl loves nature and gets so excited about going for our bushwalks. She accidently broke off a piece of fungi growing on a dead log. She asked if she could take all the fungi home from the log, I told her, “we leave the forest as we find it so that it can continue to grow forever and ever.” On the way home in the car, she said, “if everyone took something from the forest there would be nothing left for people go and see. There would be nothing left for us! We will just have to go back there to look at the mushrooms and trees again mum.” She had been thinking about it the whole time! My little Bontanista!

More designs please! Love them!

Deb March 7, 2011 at 10:53 am

It’s amazing what they think of, they take their time and think it through long after you’ve forgotten. The big girl often surprises me by continuing a conversation from the day before or bringing up something that happened months ago.

Kirsti February 28, 2011 at 8:00 pm

Totally love your t-shirt designs, and agree with your statement about commercial t-shirts out there – blergh!
I’m a myrmecologist, so adore the A is for ATOM shirt, as it is also for ANT!!
In the same vain, I would buy hundreds (ok, a few) of “All day, every day, Formicidae”!!!
An alphabet of science terms would also be fabulous (B is for boron, C is for carbon(economy), D is for dark matter….).

Thanks again for every day inspiration.
Cheers,
Kirsti

Deb February 28, 2011 at 8:25 pm

I did think of A for Ant it was a tossup, but in the end atom was more definitely sciencey. There is a complete alphabet coming ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m working my way through them. I definitely like D is for Dark Matter, although it’s currently D is for DNA with the full deoxyribonucleic acid underneath. Maybe I’ll have to have two.

Robert March 1, 2011 at 5:49 am

I love these t-shirts and would love to see any of them adorning kids at my local mall. But I always hated the rhyme about sugar and spice and all things nice when I was little, for 2 reasons 1. because it’s not factual (this is before I fully understood metaphors) and 2. because it’s horribly sexist (and it discriminated against me).
So, I would have to go with the Oxygen Carbon Hydrogen Nitrogen t-shirt for the science-based-stereotype-busting win.

Laura March 1, 2011 at 6:04 am

I want to like the That’s what girls are made of, but the graphics are still too sexist for me. ๐Ÿ™ I’d rather see beakers or test tubes or even a mixing bowl, but a tea set?

I think a V1.0 (in adult sizes) and V2.0 would be fun, although that’s more computers than science.

Deb March 1, 2011 at 7:22 am

It’s a sugar bowl and a spice grinder – meant to be an ironic comment that they AREN’T made of sugar and spice ๐Ÿ˜‰ That’s why the boy one has the dog and snail. But a gender neutral one with something based on the elements would work too, I just need to think of something to represent nitrogen!

Laura March 1, 2011 at 7:50 am

lol, I thought salt shaker (which didn’t make sense) and jumped to conclusions on the sugar bowl. A lot of my friends have recently been talking about gender roles and the immediate association I made was with cooking, not the rhyme.

I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a spice grinder… How about sugar cubes and spice leaves/berries? As for nitrogen, the only thing that comes to mind is fertilizer!

Deb March 7, 2011 at 10:55 am

Call me slow, I just got the V1.0 and V2.0

rivqa March 1, 2011 at 7:02 am

I think my favourite is Fizzics too, and Botanista is pretty.

I don’t have any concrete ideas but something about planets would probably be good? Or dinosaurs… I’ll think some more.

Kellie Judd March 1, 2011 at 7:31 am

Hi,
I would love the oxygen, carbon, hydrogen one for my daughter. But I have a son who is obsessed with insects, and a nephew too. So something like Jnr entomologist would be cool.

Charndra from My Green Nappy March 10, 2011 at 6:18 am

“Junior Entomologist” is AWESOME!

Alyra March 1, 2011 at 3:37 pm

My favourite is “THAT’S what little girls are made of”.
I have never liked the original saying but this is perfect!

sophie sl March 2, 2011 at 1:35 pm

I like A is for Atom in Dark Blue. very cool ideas!

sophie sl March 2, 2011 at 1:37 pm

My suggestion for a sciencey tshirt would be: Have a periodic table, then embed “Me” or even “Dad”, “Mum”, “U” as elements in it. This could even be customised by having a blank space and having kids fill in with their own initials!

Deb March 4, 2011 at 9:50 am

I like it. Everything I thought of for the periodic table was too complicated, that’s a good level for kids.

Annie March 3, 2011 at 11:01 am

I like the ‘that’s what little boys are made of’

Lisa March 3, 2011 at 5:54 pm

ah! these are cool! i like the ‘that’s what boys are made of..’ shirt (well, i particularly like the girl one.. because i am not a girly girl and was never a fan of the rhymes) but i have a little baby boy and that would suit him just fine!

Kate March 4, 2011 at 8:44 am

I love, love, love the ‘little boys’ and ‘little girls’ t-shirts – I have to agree with others that I never liked that rhyme either ๐Ÿ™‚ I have ordered two ‘little boys’ jumpsuits (one for my bub and one as a gift for a friend who has just had her third boy) but I know my big boy and big girl would love them too (just have to wait for more money lol).
I know my nearly 7-yr-old would love anything with planets/space. Or bugs/creepy crawlies. He also loves sport (cricket and footy are faves) so maybe something about the science behind how that all works.
My nearly 4-yr-old loves all the ‘girly’ things – butterflies, flowers (she’d love the one you have already!). She also loves baking, which I know involves science in the guise of a recipe (my son loves baking too).
Anyway, sorry the ideas a bit vague, but hopefully you can use them amongst the other ideas to brainstorm ๐Ÿ™‚

Kate March 4, 2011 at 8:47 am

ps – I can’t wait to see the full alphabet range!

Deb March 4, 2011 at 9:49 am

Thankyou ๐Ÿ˜€ My first sale is very exciting!
Thanks for the bug idea – having girls I was thinking about butterflies and wanted something more unisex, bugs is great.

Kate March 4, 2011 at 11:29 am

Yes, that’s exciting to be your first sale!! The email from Red Bubble is really lovely too, so I’ll definitely be back for more ๐Ÿ˜‰ Judging by the above comments, it won’t be too long before more sales start coming in.

I’m so glad you like the bug idea ๐Ÿ™‚

Sabrina March 4, 2011 at 8:56 am

Back with some (maybe lame) ideas:

I know its been done to the death, but having a geologist hubby who is incredibly nerdy…

“Geology rocks!” On a shirt ๐Ÿ™‚ Not quite sure if “Geology is the schist” would be appropriate though…. hehehe.

Or playing with molecules is always fun. Chocolate molecule anyone? ๐Ÿ˜›

Deb March 4, 2011 at 9:47 am

There is actually a ‘Geology Rocks’ design in my images being tweaked right now ๐Ÿ™‚ I agree it’s cute. Yellow Ibis do lovely molecule shirts, including things like Theobromine (chocolate) hearts. I have a pink shirt with the oestrogen molecule in sparkly purple, and the little one is ‘Sweet as glucose.’

Sabrina March 4, 2011 at 10:28 am

ooh ๐Ÿ™‚ exciting! Will definately be needing me one of those then!

Oh those molecule shirts are gorgeous. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks Deb!

Jess March 4, 2011 at 9:26 am

My 3yo loves the bubbles in Fizzics too. I love the Botanista one. My 1yo just loves all the colours.

I’m not sure if I missed it, but did you have any purply-coloured shirts?

There’s some really good ideas on the posts above. I think these shirts are a great idea. I also go shopping in the boys section for my little girls.

Deb March 4, 2011 at 9:43 am

Thankyou and sorry, there are no purples available in kid’s clothes. There is a dark purple but it’s only for adult shirts.

Charndra from My Green Nappy March 5, 2011 at 2:11 pm

Definitely the Alienpologist in black!

I’m also with the crowd who doesn’t think all boys should be branded as troublesome misfits and girls as tarty ‘zilla’ princesses with their t-shirt options! My son was given one ‘Time Out King’ which I CRINGE at whenever he wears it! He also has so many with guns on them, skulls on them – I didn’t buy any of them, of course! LOL

I also often wonder what a future anthropologist would think of many of the current t-shirt fashions showing skulls in many forms – ift often feels as if we are in a culture worshiping death!

Phoebe March 5, 2011 at 2:20 pm

These shirts are great, I like the Alien-pologist T-shirt, though my son has just discovered bubbles so he’d probably want Fizzics.
There are lots of good suggestions here too, I was thinking a shirt with slogan ‘Aristotle, Galileo, Einstien and ME!’

Meagan March 6, 2011 at 7:35 am

Hi lovely site you have! I love the yellow fizzics shirt its bright and bubbly…lol I’m not a real science brain but since my son love frogs maybe a shirt with a frog on it named Herp etology? silly i know..and yes I had to look it up…lmao

emma heke March 6, 2011 at 5:42 pm

I LOVE the Alien Pologist t-shirt. WOW. This is screamingly funny and just brilliant. Would love to win one of these for my 6 year old son. He’s science mad and I home school. He would fit a size 8 as he’s nearly 7. And Deb, your science ideas absolutely rock. Thank you.
ps would happily swap my lovely NZ Nature DVD called OURS which I’m sure your girls would love, with one of these t shirts??

Katy March 6, 2011 at 9:28 pm

I love, love, love the Botanista one (especially in the dark colours)! I’m also quite partial to the Little Boys one. It’s so refreshing to see some intelligent short designs for kids. (I’ve also got my eye on one or two for me too). Thanks Deb.

I love the bug idea that was mentioned earlier (and I know my little girl would too). Water seems to be a big part of my kids exploration at the moment, so I’d love a shirt about the good old H2O.

Julie Griffiths March 6, 2011 at 10:13 pm

Just showed these to my husband – and he’s been chuckling away! I have an MSc and he is an engineer so we think geeky stuff is cool! Quite fond of ‘A is for atom’. Madly thinking of some new ideas… Although I do have a red t-shirt myself with a heme molecule on it. How about one with a caffeine molecule on it – ‘how my parents stay awake’?

Julie Griffiths March 6, 2011 at 10:19 pm

“I play, therefore I am”. Too philosophical?

Kendall March 7, 2011 at 8:19 am

I like the I want to be an alienpologist in black.

Will definitely come back in the future to see what other designs you have. You are right about all the T-shirt choices at the shops.

Rebecca W March 7, 2011 at 8:29 am

I do a lot of plant ID at work, and am really enjoying sharing that with the girls, so I LOVE the “Botanista” shirt! And you’ve done so well with the design to make it acceptable to the girly preschooler, but still “girl with a brain”.

My idea for a new shirt… maybe “Cooler than” and then a list of really cold things in science…”cryogenics” “the Karoo ice age” etc.

James March 22, 2011 at 9:32 pm

I would like to see an organic design with made from organic materials and methods. My daughter has a lovely t-shirt with the test 100% organic on the front.
