Wordless Wednesday – Not a cloud in the sky

by Deb on June 16, 2010

blue sky

Did you know my camera won’t take a picture of the sky?  Obviously confused, poor darling.  This is our sky, with not a cloud in sight.  Sounds good?  Not quite.  You see clouds trap heat, and all the flat desert around us is busy reflecting the sunlight back out into space and not at us.  There’s this amazing wind tunnel straight up from Antarctica and across the centre of Australia, we’ve had days that look like this that are -5 degrees celsius.  It’s not quite that bad at the moment and when you stand in the sun protected from the wind it’s quite lovely.  Just don’t go into the shade.

That is a beautiful picture. The Teletubbies would like it too!
I found your story interesting: I didn’t know that about clouds trapping the heat and everything.

Gorgeous-looks like you have been having great weather where you are! I love this time of year in Australia.

Just read your profile-I am a teacher too (English not Science!) and quit full time teaching to be with my kids. Aren’t you glad you aren’t working at the moment? Report cards, testing, flu season….!!!!

Best wishes,
Natasha.

The sky is such a beautiful blue. I hadn’t heard about the wind tunnel before.

Popped in from Lady Blogger’s to say hi! It’s so fascinating that it looks so warm but can be so cold!

So interesting (and deceiving)! It looks like the sky of a very hot summer day.
