1. I suspect it is because of the numerous “ecosystems” (not sure that is the word I’m looking for) that they support… like the tall trees protect the smaller ferns etc from the sun, the plants all break down quickly and feed the bugs, various animals feed on the seeds and bugs etc etc. If you break one part of it (taking down the tall trees) you break the lot.
2. I know in Australia there are rainforests up north, e.g. the Daintree. I’m not sure if there are also rainforests in Tassie… perhaps they’re just forests (question – what makes a rainforest – is there a certain level of rainfall required to define it?)
3. A cassowary?
4. Hmm, not sure. Mangos?
5. Some sort of tree frog but I don’t know which one
